Hi I’m making a TTPRG it’s called Ascendant, it’s got nonsensical-flesh-monsters, beneficent but bound Gods, and number-crunching-madness.
The first draft of the system is done.

The only things that are left to do are things I can’t do unless I have numbers and information.

Public playtest version is available upon request!

The marketing team (me) has informed the PR team (also me), that I’m doing a bad job at social media

I once read that in order to design a good TTRPG, you have to be willing to bear a lot of pain. Sometimes the last thing I want to do is write for Ascendant.

But then sometimes it clicks, writing the game becomes the best thing in the whole world, and I remember why I love this hobby so much.

Generating Feat ideas for Thaumaturge by holding my index fingers my up to my temples and squinting really hard at my design doc

It’s really interesting looking at classes I haven’t for a while (like Thaumaturge) and seeing the remnants of a completely different system. My old class design is effectively totally incompatible with Ascendant as it is today, and that’s rather neat!

Although I at times worry a lot about mathematical balance, I have to admit that 90% of Ascendant development is composed of me throwing ideas at my idea people, listening to them while tilting my head 45 degrees to the left, then doing vibes based development based on how I feel. It works great,

Ascendant got its first playtest!!!! The best news is: it’s fun, it’s playable.

It still needs a lot of work, but the core is there, and it works well!

So about that monster reformatting, probably not happening any time soon. Mostly because it is horrendously tedious!

I need to reformat all of my monsters and I’m going insaaaaaaaaaaaaneee

I promised myself when I started ascendant I would have a minimum of 50 enemies in the CRB

I just finished the last batch of 6 and it’s oddly freeing…

Ascendant Playtest is real, I can’t believe it
April 26, 2025 at 2:21 AM
Ascendant might actually get a playtest this year

Which is a nice and temporary good thing in all this absurdity

I’ve made some silly BS in my time but this has to be the most stupid Monster Stat Block ever conceived.

I will not start another TTRPG project before I finish ascendant I will not start another TTRPG project before I finish ascendant I will not start another TTRPG project before I finish ascendant I will not start another TTRPG project before I finish ascendant

To clear up common misconceptions, no ascendant is NOT ‘coming out tomorrow’ nor is Trench Requiem. Public Playtest for Ascendant will probably be available Late 2025 to mid 2026.

Using the power of spreadsheets and elementary level arithmetic I have developed a (mostly) functioning system of calculating the damage output of a weapon based on its Traits for my TTRPG. Explanation for those that want it below.

No context.

Man I sure hope that these system wide changes to my funny tabletop roleplaying game will be easy and smooth to implement!

*the 50 monsters I have already written staring at me blankly as they now must be the formatted*

Damage is now static across the board. Next major addition is to build up sparks (character bonds chosen at creation to help them get a meta resource), and then remake all my monsters. After that it is spreadsheet time once again, then monster-building rules and dungeon generation tables.

Over the past 12 hours I have re-written almost 100 spells and I am feeling dead inside.

There are now ‘chasers’ in Ascendant. (And by this I mean there is an exploration rule for enemies chasing or tracking the party over long distances)

Me when I have consolidated all combat effects in my game down to 2 roll types and made it so that the only dice required to do combat is 1d20 (thank you Emily)

When I sit down in front of my spreadsheet for balancing my system I feel like an evil math wizard or an accountant or something idk

Hey #TTRPG people, how many classes is too many for a CRB? I’ve currently got 11 and one of my most trusted advisors when it comes to this kind of thing has said I should probably stop there. I was initially planning for 15, but I’m not really sure anymore.
February 14, 2025 at 12:48 AM
also as a side note, this funny TTRPG I started a year and a half ago has just breached 95,000 words in length. I am increasingly concerned about the scope of this project and my goal of getting a public playtest done by mid 2026.
