The spores are carried away on the wildfire's updraft, and eventually come to rest in the nutrient-rich ash left behind. ALSO also, the ground of the entire forest is primed to burn by the thick mats of needles (redwoods are coniferous, not deciduous) the redwoods spend every day leaving behind!

When a wildfire comes through, it clears the ground of shorter underbrush (sword ferns, smaller trees, etc.), the flames climb the incredibly flammable redwood bark (leaving the naturally flame-retardant wood unharmed), and the burls explode like popcorn (water -> steam/pressure -> BOOM)

This is a great sentiment, but the thing is... they DO burn! One of the coolest parts of their biology is their spores, contained in the burls that grow on their sides.
