The century of camps, published in 2000, analysed the crimes of the 20th century. It is up to everyone alive today to make sure that the remainder

A sad tale of three ageing 20th century powers led by 70+ men trying to create an autocratic, anarchic, anachronistic & life-on-Earth-destroying entropy. People in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe & Oceania move away from the abyss of the imperial geriatric fight club & build a rules-based World.

How are they showing that the pursuit of peace based upon justice and international co-operation is

Just read Fedor Vergins (DOB unknown) Das Unbewusste Europa (1931). A rather weird mix of arguments and pseudo-theoritic speculations, not free from the misogynic, racist and technocratic prejudices of the time. Yet, it contains some intriguing observations of Europe’s predicament.

Just read Richard Hughes’ (1900-1976) The Human Predicament (volume one): The Fox in the Attic (1961) “Hitler existed alone. […] The universe contained no other persons than him, only things; and thus for him the whole gamut of the ‘personal’ pronouns lacked wholly its normal emotional content.”

Just read Timothy Snyder’s On Freedom (2024) Just read Timothy Snyder’s On Freedom (2024) “How does freedom figure in our lives? The connections between freedom as a principle and freedom as a practice are the five forms of freedom. The forms create a world where people act on the basis of values.”

Just read Gregor Hasler’s Der Berset-Code. Die Resiliez-Strategien von #AlainBerset (2024) "Nur das Negative sehen ist belastend. Das ist auch historisch belegt: In den meisten Fallen war Optimismus in der Geschichte der Menschheit die richtige und realistische Haltung.“

Just (re-)read F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s (1896-1940) The Great Gatsby (1926) "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

Just read Simon Mundy’s Making it Home. Europe and the Politics of Culture (1997) “Nationalism is still the most powerful force in European political psychology and a version of it underpins all the structures which have been put together to supersede it.”

Just read Elias Canetti‘s (1905-1994) Die gespaltene Zukunft (1972). „Das Kommende ist anders da als je zuvor, es nähert sich rascher und es wird bewußt herbeigeführt. ... Die Wirklichkeit des Kommenden hat sich gespalten: auf der einen Seite die Vernichtung, auf der anderen das gute Leben.“

Just read Eugene S. Schwartz’s (1917-?) Overskill (1971): "The computers and system analysis can “answer a fool according to his folly.” … they cannot deal with the qualitative and creative aspects of human & social life which must be called upon to re-create the present and fashion the future."

Just read Henry Farrell‘s&Abraham Newman‘s Underground Empire (2023): As Europe started mapping a possible route to a new world economy. That economy would not be a utopia, any more than Europe itself, with its bureaucracy, unacknowledged colonial legacies,& sundry nationalized cruelties is a utopia

Just read Sumathi Ramaswany‘s Worlding India. (2022): Empire of Geography‘s earth-writing is shown up for what it is - a fragile, all-too-human achievement which may be indispensable, but is nevertheless inadequate in face of other memories and other imperatives of being and belonging in our planet
