I figured he was showing up to one of them because he is in town for interviews tomorrow afternoon

One of the funniest and dumbest things about Tron Ares is that it thinks everyone can't put down some hot new gaming franchise called Space Paranoids lol. Real energy of being made by filmmakers with no finger on any cultural pulse

If all goes as planned, I will watch 5 movies at #CIFF two weeks from today, which would be a new record in one day for me. It's a killer lineup with good stuff every day
flickmythrob.bsky.social
This is a film where a character makes an offhand remark hoping they don’t become a cliché, in a narrative that is, eventually, consumed by tropes and not being nearly as psychologically deep as it believes it is #BoneLake

I can only assume people are taking it to task for being graphic, and I totally understand if that triggers someone, but that does not make this a bad movie. Yes, it's about a famous boxer. It's also about a woman under terrifying control with no opportunity to explore her actual identity
flickmythrob.bsky.social
Also didn't realize Sydney Sweeney had a performance like this in her. But Merrit Wever, she's a monster of a mother with a line that hangs over the film like a dark cloud, as if taking abuse is normal and what's expected of Christy
flickmythrob.bsky.social
And honestly, anyone who thinks Ben Foster is playing a cartoon character depiction of domestic abuse can fuck off. His quietness and calmness before erupting into rage when it's not even expected nails the horrifying unpredictability of abusers
flickmythrob.bsky.social
Looks like I'm alone on an island but #Christy is terrific and more than a boxing film. it's about identity, repression, a scarily realistic portrayal of domestic abuse, and what unfortunately happens when you kill every piece of that identity to make proud a family who would never accept you

This is such an important, insightful read for anyone (which is basically all of us) frustrated by this industry or those on the outside who want to know how bad things are getting
flickmythrob.bsky.social
We also agree Grofield is the best part lol
flickmythrob.bsky.social
Yep, I also mentioned that in my review

If you take a shot every time they show a TV spot for The Smashing Machine on ESPN you will be dead within the hour
flickmythrob.bsky.social
And my deeply cynical take is that it will never happen because the big shots love having that established hierarchy and being at the top. It is unreal how the most incredible job in the world can also frustrate so much to the point where articles like this are likely accurate
flickmythrob.bsky.social
I still need to read the article, but one of the most infuriating things is when someone much higher up on the totem pole tells you, "That's just part of the game." Well, maybe someone needs to blow up this archaic industry that showed us how easy access could be for everyone during the pandemic

The conceit of robbers robbing robbers feels both half-baked and primarily used for cheap jokes rather than serving as the basis for a truly fresh crime caper. It's also disappointingly lacking in personality, showing Shane Black has lost a step #PlayDirty

#AHouseofDynamite - thinking about how President Crimes would handle this situation is enough to give someone a heart attack
