a wise fear! def steer clear of the "input" side, that's household 120v. but that replacement one had the dangerous side all wired up so there's not much you could hurt yourself with as long as you don't like, lick the output wires

lastly if you've got a multimeter, plug it in and see what the voltage is on the output. if it's fried it'll be less than 12v

i don't know a thing about animation lights specifically, but there's a good chance swapping that driver module out would bring it back to life. that one is 24 watts, so anything that fit in the box and was rater for at least that should work.
