i can’t believe i missed this last month. ~3 weeks before this announcement, i was lamenting over the lack of pc engine emulators that could fully run popful mail. the cutscene after you save tatto freezes up the game, so i had to stop my playthrough. i hope this leads to that issue getting fixed!

while i’m already talking about old video game merch that my friends think is fake - yes, i wasn’t joking about the chibi brandish broccoli trading card. it’s real, and i own one of them. i have a few falcom trading cards, but this is the holy grail, an absolutely historic find.

last thing i’ll note for now is the only “damage” to this set. the tape being so old means that it degraded to the point of staining the back label. i’m no scientist, but i assume this is part of what makes the set smell kind of bad.

also, i somehow didn’t deduce that these would be carpenter pencils despite how obviously flat they were in the listing photos. i don’t own a carpenter pencil sharper, and i’m horrible at using any kind of blade for sharpening pencils, so i’ll leave these as they are for the time being.

here’s what’s hidden underneath the paper label. i wasn’t expecting the colored pencils to be labeled from 0-11 (as opposed to 1-12), though that’s probably just a practice that i’m unfamiliar with. has falcom used the phrase “the impression” in other ys products or marketing materials?

the ys ii colored pencil set arrived at my place today! its condition is so good that at first, i thought it might be a reproduction. however, it took me ~10 minutes to peel the tape off the sides because it was VERY stuck on there. once i finally got it open, the smell it emitted was less than good

for some reason, people respect my opinions on colored pencil brands, so i’m going to review the ys ii colored pencil set. it should be delivered within the next week. i’ll be shocked if these still work well after ~35 years.
