With plentiful and even heavy rainfall last week in Florida, drought conditions have improved across much of the state this week, except in southwest Florida where extreme drought persists due to continued low water levels and high fire risk. With much warmer than normal temps and below normal precipitation in FL, severe drought has emerged in parts of Sarasota, Manatee, and Hillsborough Counties, as well as in western Pasco and Hernando Counties. About 38% of the state is in moderate or severe drought. Another 38% is abnormally dry.
