legend of kamui is good

Below, there are several paragraphs written by Shirato Sanpei: "If everyone's legitimate demands were crushed and ignored, how sad and indignant we would be! Today, despite all the advancements in society and people's desire to lead happy lives, reality falls short of these expectations. In this tale, I have described people trying to find happiness and better lives for themselves during the thirty or so years between the 1640s and the 1670s. The main characters are feudal lords, swordsmen, spies, merchants, scholars, and farmers... and also various types of oppressed people. I want to show how such people were forced to live lives that were completely different from what they had hoped. In order to describe Tokugawa feudal society - the setting of the story - I have focused on the discriminatory class system, a creation of authorities to support a feudal structure. Because it was a pillar of that structure and at the same time revealed its fundamental contradictions, a focus on the class system can clarify, for the first time, the essence of Tokugawa society. Therefore, the real victims, Yasuke and the outcasts, who lived in these circumstances and were more oppressed even than farmers, will be the most significant characters in the tale."
