The Midnight Folk by John Masefield, in preparation for reading The Box of Delights. I'd completely forgotten the story which is quite odd and unexpected. I have a bone to pick with HarperCollins who have allowed The Midnight Folk to be in reprint limbo for a couple of years. I bought mine 2nd hand.

The magic roundabout effect is real. Two of them are called Florence and Dougal.

I'd like to suggest a 'where are they now?' follow up in 2026.

I like that they have committed fully to the vision. Not to my taste though.

I think the lights are lovely but my first thought when I saw them the other day was Silence of the Lambs.

Hello Tom, I would love to read your book and I too love maps.
P.S. have you seen the new secret maps book published by the British library to go with their exhibition? It is great.

I haven't used Amazon for nearly a decade*. It's not very difficult to stop.

*Very occasionally (maybe once every couple of years) a vendor uses Amazon for shipping and I don't know in advance.

I'm a bit late to this but have just started reading The Tiger Skin and Other Tales of the Uneasy by Violet Hunt, just republished by the British Library. It's short stories rather than a novel but all seem to be set in London at that time.

That recipe sounds fine!

May I enquire which recipe was used? Asking for a friend.

Couldn't agree more. None of the obits I've read so far have mentioned it. And a stellar cast

Such an underrated film!

Thanks for the recommendation. I am now reading There Were No Windows - what an excellent novel.

I haven't heard of one yet (I am a bookseller) but will ask around...

Northern and Elizabeth lines for me - and sometimes the overground!

I'm wondering whether anyone has written a novel about a fraudulent yoga teacher - do you happen to know? Could be a great story :)
