The first example is a great showcase of using a lot of differing line colors in nearby spaces, using catty-corner middle-tones to define the shape (of the horn, for example), using lighter tones to separate shapes on the body (the front legs, chest).
Also a good show of shading with pixel-gradient!

My biggest inspiration for pixel art is Pokemon!
The battle sprites in particular have a lot going for them: great use of palettes, including using lineart to indicate lighting while also utilizing anti-alias; clear shapes, forms; and style!

These examples I chose as lighter skin-tone examples!

I think she looks gorgeous! Pixel art can be so confounding sometimes, but working in it really makes me respect all the older games that utilized it!

I'd love to give my inspo/advice on anti-alias but thought I might come off as totally rude/unwarranted, but if you'd like to hear please lmk!
