50. Backmarker: a driver at the rear end of the field, often when he is encountered by the race leaders, blue flags are used to inform the backmarker when he should let a faster car past.

49. Blistering: The consequence of a tyre overheating. Excess heat can cause rubber to soften and break away in chunks from the body of the tyre. Makes it harder to drive.

If at all times=traffic is approaching(for driver leaving pits),

if at practice=faster car about to overtake,

If at race=about to be lapped by race leader and must give way. If not for three times then penalty imposed

47. Sectors: a track is divided into 1/3rds. Used to help time the laps.

Colours:
Yellow=not personal best,

Green=personal best,

Purple=fastest overall.

During race there is a purple clock near the driver's name which indicates fastest lap (+1 point, only for top 10).

46. Tyre Compounds: Mix of rubber which makes the tyres.

Colours:

Red=softs, fast but short life,

Yellow=medium, slower but longer life,

White= hard, slowest but longest life.

[wets]
Green=intermediate, light water and treads,

Blue=wets, heavy water and bigger treads.

42. Slipstream: When a car is behind another on a straight, they get a lot more speed because all the air resistance and drag is faced by the car in front. This helps the car behind to overtake and is aided by DRS.

40. Oversteer: When the car turns more than intended, the rear tyres lose traction before the front. This often results in spin or crash.

41. Understeer: When the car turns less than intended, the front tyres lose traction before the rear. It causes the car to go wide.

39. Lock-up: When the car brakes sharply, one of the tyres may stop moving while others are still in motion. This results in flat spots and smoke.

38. Flat Spots: When the car slides, tyres get worn down in specific places. It causes severe vibrations and may force the driver to pit.

34. Marbles: When tyres slide, pieces of rubber tear off it and collect on the side of the tracks. They are extremely slippery to drive on, like walking on marbles.

33. Tear-off Strips: Strips of plastic fitted over a helmet's visor. It can be removed during the race is the visor gets dirty, providing a clearer vision.

32. HANS device: Hands and Neck device. Provides additional support to the neck and head to prevent excessive movements during an event of an accident.

31. Sidepods: It contains the radiators which help in cooling of the car. They run along the side of the monocoque.

30. Monocoque: A tub where the cockpit is located. It provides additional security to the driver.

23. Rumble Strip: A bumpy curb at the edge of a corner. Used to warn driver about the edge of the corner.

22. Plank: Wooden strip underneath a car. It is to check that the cars are not too close to the ground. It also limits downforce on the car.
eg. Charles Leclerc and Sir Lewis Hamilton were disqualified in COTA race in 2023 when their plank wear was deemed more than 1mm)

19. Parc ferme: After qualifying or race the cars are parked there for the stewards check them. No one but the stewards are allowed to touch them until they are cleared.

16. Graining: Car sliding results in small bits of rubber to tear off the tyre and stick to someone else's (or their own) car. It affects the driving because in great speed even a small bump feels like a lot bigger. That is called Graining.
