No actually, Kathy just seems to be wrong, and Willis had nothing to do with it.

So it appears there's two unrelated sets of stupidities: Willis charges RICO when she should charge something simpler, and Chris Carr charges RICO when he has nothing at all.

There's a reason that the DA's refuse to take it on, it simply was too weak for each individual, they literally couldn't prove that anyone specifically had committed any crimes, cuz they didn't catch them and they vanished into a crowd, hence the nonsensical RICO prosecution.
November 28, 2025 at 4:03 AM
Yes but both the Young phone case and the Trump prosecution could have been prosecuted in other ways and had a successful prosecution.

The Cop City protest stuff couldn't have been, there was no plausible way to get a conviction of any sort for that, because they couldn't prove anything.
November 28, 2025 at 4:03 AM
It turns out if there's a big group of people fully authorized to be somewhere, and some small group of them, maybe 20%, break off in the dark and run a couple hundred feet and break into a construction site and damage equipment and run back, you're kind of fucked, judicially.
November 28, 2025 at 3:57 AM
Unlike the other cases that people are bringing up where she charged RICO when she should have charged something simpler, it's hard to come up with any actual case there at all.

Some subset of protesters damaged a bunch of equipment, but it's basically impossible to prove who participated in that.
November 28, 2025 at 3:55 AM
The mistakes actually were charging it to start with, so the original mistakes were hers. But then the AG didn't drop it so shares the mistakes.
November 28, 2025 at 1:54 AM
That case was never going to succeed, it wasn't a good case. The failure there wasn't how they did it, the failure was trying to do it at all.

What you have described is literally how all computers work, which means saying that LLM are the same as machine learning because they all use that process is nonsense.

Fucking Excel uses that process.
November 27, 2025 at 4:02 PM
As is audio.

So that's not even a GOOD vaguely generalized description of how computers function.
November 27, 2025 at 3:04 PM
That is not even slightly how a training process works, and it is in fact basically a description of literally anything a computer does.

... Well, except for the fact that computers don't actually turn text into stream of numbers or stream of numbers back into text, text is a stream of numbers.

I have a huge list in my head of things that machine learning could actually improve, like GPS navigation that actually takes all the data we've collected over the decades about driving paths, and figures out how people actually drive and what roads they want to use.

But no, we use AI for slop.

Whereas obviously landlords don't willingly pay slightly below the listed price to if someone comes in with a property for them, to get the property for a month, and then rent it out for a month at slightly above the listed price.

That's just not how the industry works.
November 27, 2025 at 2:40 PM
Also, perhaps just as importantly, these price guides tend to generally work in both directions, the retailers will buy a little under the price and sell at, or buy at and sell a little above... It's pretty clear the listed price is 'correct' from their POV, not inflated.
November 27, 2025 at 2:37 PM
Also, a resellers market is not really the same thing as rental property. Resellers are middlemen.

If resellers were selling things at too high a price, people would just buy directly from the original seller and remove the middleman. The problem sort of fixes itself.
November 27, 2025 at 2:35 PM
On top of the other stuff that people pointed out about private information, landlords are incredibly consolidated to the point that if just a small number of them are doing this, it's functionally a monopoly.

Which isn't true of how a list of going rates work.
November 27, 2025 at 2:28 PM
Sorry, this is just annoying as fuck to me, how the media is acting like this is a giant scandal, while the giant scandal is actually how the media acted over the last decade and a half with regard towards Trump and not only hasn't reckoned with that but hasn't even stopped doing it!
November 27, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Instead, systemically, all of you would get duped into letting them talk about things from absurd political positions, and then you would talk about them talking about those things, making those things into legitimate news.

Over and over again.
November 27, 2025 at 2:16 PM
At some point, the very small amount of legitimate political media that existed in this country should have turned into near wall to wall coverage of how other media outlets were trying to normalize Trump

Like literally, that should have been all they talked about, how insane this situation was.
November 27, 2025 at 2:14 PM
(Sorry, by Olivia above, I mean Messar, not the other Olivia in this entire thing, that was confusing.)
November 27, 2025 at 2:13 PM
Like I said, it's All Cops Are Bastards. I don't have anywhere near as pithy a phrase for this, but:

All political journalists are fine with a system that the wealthy used to promote fascism within the US, and are easily led to talk about what those pro-fascist people want to talk about.
November 27, 2025 at 2:11 PM
Or, even worse, act like it's meaningful to vaguely be not happy about fascism while working for the companies, or with people who work for companies, that actively work to mislead the American people into being fine with fascism.
November 27, 2025 at 2:08 PM
I'm not really talking about Olivia here. Rolling Stones really is one of the few publications that actually does things, and Slate is...eh, whatever.

The problem is the entire community is very interconnected, and work with each other, and act like it's normal to work for pro-fascist companies.
November 27, 2025 at 2:06 PM
Stop. Pretending. Your. Bosses. Are. Not. Explicitly. Extremely. Pro. Fascism.
November 27, 2025 at 2:00 PM
Literally the only ethical thing 99% of political journalists can do is resign fucking immediately from almost every single media entity, and then burn the thing to the ground with a tell-all as best you can from somewhere else.

You fuckers won't even get off Twitter!
