They think I must be upset that about half of my daughter's kindergarten classmates are from immigrant families. That I'm supposed to be threatened by this, or feel she's losing her own culture or heritage, rather than that her world is enriched by the experience.

They're tragically wrong.

The Stephen Millers of the world cannot comprehend this. They believe that I, a white guy with Nordic ancestry, must regard having immigrant and refugee neighbors with grudging tolerance or quiet resentment at best.

That I couldn't possibly be happy and proud these people are part of my community.
