I sat and wrote this, took me over an hour and now someone has come along and accused me of using chat gpt which is frankly insulting. But I'm not rising up to it, it seems to be a thing now if you have the ability to write. I should just stop proof reading my comments 😂

It's ironic really. Patriotism, I feel at least, starts with the community. The romanticism that comes with the 'Little England' vision wouldn't be made possible if it wasn't for village fetes, jumble sales, community action groups, cricket clubs all pivoting on the concept of community.

Exactly this. It's crass. The flag is part of their culture, they're very proud of their flag, they like putting it in strange places, like the moon, or random places you'd not necessarily think to put a national flag. But we're still proud of our flag but in a different way.

It's just that. Performative. Pathetic. Patriotism is not just about symbolic gestures, cheap flags, that's 'patriotism' in one of the worst possible ways. It's about values. Community. Neighbourhood. Helping those in need. Lifting up to make us all feel we're part of something bigger.
