My worst nightmare is ever getting anything from Hillsdale College…

The badly-reported article distorts the point of what happened. Instead of each student devising their own plan of study, with close and rigorous faculty consultation, the state is now dictating the curriculum and getting rid of courses it doesn’t like. The Odyssey is irrelevant to the problem.

The article is horrible, a terrible injustice to the legacy and history of NC and smooths over its horrendous takeover and death. I read hundreds of NYT reader comments and so many think it’s just about liberals not liking The Odyssey. The issue has fucking NOTHING to do with The Odyssey!

Worst article I’ve ever read about NC and I’ve read a hundred or more. I’m a 1974 grad and this article skirts over the unconscionable damage and destruction caused by DeSatan and his ilk. The death of New College is heartbreaking.

This is beyond… I dunno, words, belief, comprehension, all of the above?

I can’t believe ANYONE watched.

Yay!

I agree with all the comments here but my response to this is just “pitiful.”

Pure evil personified. But what goes around, comes around. Karma, someday….

Lots of people are saying, Sir, thank you for making everything so wonderful, all the people love you!
December 24, 2025 at 8:49 PM
Yes please. “Just about everyone else in America“ agrees!
December 23, 2025 at 7:21 PM
Impressive!
December 23, 2025 at 4:06 AM
Not really but I get the point.
December 23, 2025 at 4:04 AM
Umm… can we do both?
December 23, 2025 at 4:03 AM
Very surprised to see essentially the same numbers for college/no college. That’s a very notable pattern.
December 22, 2025 at 6:33 PM
Good news for a change!

Just disgusting.

Grey, have you ever seen Sweeney performed onstage? It’s sheer perfection. With respect, the film is an abomination. No chorus?!?! And I love Tim Burton. Sorry, but the film ruined the score. And the score is the best thing in the history of the universe.

Most films of shows suck, but they've gotten better (e.g., Tick Tick Boom). I’ve always thought that the film of 1776 was a keeper, and I’ve seen the show MANY times. Sad I probably won’t be around to see the Linklater version of Merrily.

Come From Away is Sondheim-adjacent, not in style, but in brilliance and emotional impact. You must see it.

Plenty of reviews on Rotten Tomtoes, mostly positive, yay!

I‘ve never been sure about the addition of Growing Up and the larger role for Gussie, but the film is a miracle. Will probably go see it again tomorrow. I’m just sorry I probably won’t be around to see the Linklater version in 2039… but one never knows.

My hand is up very high! I saw the original 1981 production on Broadway and I felt like someone had died. But I fell in love with the score (duh, Sondheim), and I’ve enjoyed seeing the revisions over the years, and the movie is a marvel, a special treat to treasure and cry over forever.

Utter disaster, no chorus. Inexplicable. Inexcusable.

I am NOT a Christmas person, but I’m with Kelly. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Judy Garland, hands down. Please don’t anyone suggest We Need A Little Christmas…!
