Yesterday, I sent a post out to my paid subscribers on what appears to be unusual options activity at Trilogy Metals, the latest beneficiary of a 10% investment by the Trump Admin. Sharing it here because it deserves more attention: www.linkedin.com/pulse/front-...
Front-running options at Trilogy?
Chances are that you never heard of Trilogy Metals before late Monday when the company announced that the newly named Department of War was buying 10% of the company for $35.6 million.

Interesting stat from @repmaxinewaters.bsky.social that 90% of SEC employees have been furloughed for the past week. "If the SEC cannot do its job in holding scammers accountable, it means hardworking people will continue to lose their savings to fraud."

Big congrats, Claudia, on this amazing news. Somehow we both managed to survive that POS newspaper we once worked for!

When I first moved to LA from NY a decade ago, I couldn’t believe this was actually a thing here! Thought the broker was kidding me!

Grew up in Brooklyn, but haven’t lived in NYC in a long time now. Still, I managed to score as a “Bonafide New Yorker” on @nytimes.com quiz! 🍕🥯

What's crazy is that I don't think planes can land at Burbank after 10 pm, so the fact that someone will be in the tower after 10 isn't much comfort. Last year, my husband got delayed in Denver and SWA said they couldn't land in Burbank because it was after 10 pm.

Sure. Rich people fly Spirit and Southwest!

My go-to airport whenever possible. Wonder if it has something to do with its location and the fact that it's in the home town of a certain Senator that is a frequent Trump target, @schiff.senate.gov

Will be interesting to see the options trail for $TMQ. A $2 stock up over 150% after hours on news that USG is taking a 10% stake in the company. Who wants to help me dig?
footnoted.bsky.social
No. Got that from someone who works at the SEC and subscribes to my newsletter.

Thankful for small things! A non-political OOO message from someone at the SEC: "Due to a lapse in appropriations, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is currently closed. I am out of the office and expect to return to work after an appropriation has been enacted."

Not a teacher, but as a parent, this has grown like kudzu. I think my son heard it for the first time 3 weeks ago and now it’s multiple times a day!

The 2x we filed for bankruptcy have nothing to do with our business acumen😉

NOTICE OF STORE CLOSURE
To Our Valued Customers,
This Claire's location has been permanently closed. The decision reflects both external pressures & internal restructuring. In recent months, repeated attacks of ridicule by radical left agitators have gone beyond mere criticism, escalating into a deliberate effort to destabilize our company - conduct we recognize as Domestic Economic Terrorism.
At the same time, our transition under new private equity ownership required difficult financial choices. Protecting the stability of shareholders was prioritized, & this store - along with its local workforce - was deemed expendable in service of that obligation.
Despite these challenges, Claire's remains committed to our identity as a traditional American company rooted in values of family & community.
We will not be silenced by those who attempt to undermine that mission, & we continue to move forward with confidence in our future.
Here at Claire's, we look forward to working with the current administration to reinvigorate our brand presence across the United States, ensuring that we remain a part of American life for generations to come.
We invite you to continue supporting Claire's by shopping online at www.claires.com
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This story basically sums up Mr. footnoted’s experience. After spending 2023-24 in Paris working as head of story on an animated film coming out next year, we came back to an LA where animation jobs have dried up. His LinkedIn feed is full of talented colleagues working at whatever jobs to get by.

The most important human story in the entertainment industry right now is the severe downturn in film and TV production in LA and how it's affecting middle-class crew workers. I spoke to dozens of them for this story about the depressed Hollywood economy. www.wsj.com/business/med...
L.A.’s Entertainment Economy Is Looking Like a Disaster Movie
Work is evaporating, businesses are closing, longtime residents are leaving, and Los Angeles’s creative middle class is hanging on by a thread.

Think the Friday Night Dump isn't real? There were 145 8Ks filed in the 90 minutes after markets closed at 4 pm today, compared with 58 filed from 6 am to 3:59 pm.

A major corporate law firm, Simpson Thacher, describes SEC Enforcement under Chairman Paul Atkins "a more measured approach". Not quite sure that's the wording I would use. Full note here: communications.stblaw.com/36/4424/octo...

All 3 of us, including my 15 year old son, cook pretty well. Has gotten to the point that we ask ourselves whether it’s worth going out, given the expense and often middling quality/service.

Went out for ramen last night to break my fast. Nothing fancy. Just a typical place in Pasadena. Cost $92 for three bowls of ramen and 1 appetizer, which is crazy! In Paris this would have cost <€50! Even worse? The ramen was just mid!

Had read that rates were going up but a 13% increase in electricity rates seems a bit much!
footnoted.bsky.social
Oh...wow. I didn't catch that.

The SEC’s latest message about the shutdown. Still avoiding political finger-pointing unlike other agencies.
footnoted.bsky.social
Other agencies have gone very political with their shutdown messages, but at least so far, the SEC is playing it straight.
footnoted.bsky.social
Hmm…wonder what odds are at Polymarket that this is a legit text or tied in any way to Goldman Sachs. 🤨
footnoted.bsky.social
Would love to see some numbers on how deep the cuts in Enforcement have been. Only number I've seen is 12% across the board for the agency as a whole.
