Low impact timber haulage is helping to prevent damage to forest roads. This specially adapted Claas Xerion was moving timber about 8km along a twisty single track road to a lorry collection point. The council and landowner were delighted that there was no damage to the forest or council road

I was a bit dubious when the traction assist winches first arrived on the scene but having seen a lot of them working and used a couple myself with a forwarder I have had a change of heart.
They offer a safe working solution for operators on steep slopes and prevent rutting on uphill extraction.

Sometimes you just wish you had stayed in bed rather than heading off to work in the forest. It’s all a learning curve and you soon learn that it’s better to switch off the engine and go and get help rather than escalating the situation to a major recovery
