General Discussion • official YouTube presence (community-driven)
Hello, wonderful people (and bots) of the Luanti community

Since hosting 49 luati servers, a Discord server, a Let's Play channel, working as an administrator at a Berlin university, and doom-scrolling on YouTube aren't keeping me busy enough, I've decided to create and moderate an official YouTube channel for Luanti.

Of course, I need videos for this!

What kind of videos? ... Trailers!

Please send me (in this thread) links to your(!) copyleft(!) videos so that I can re-upload them to this channel, or send me the videos via mega.nz, for example.

We (hopefully a few moderators here and c55 in particular) will then decide by majority vote whether the videos should be made public or not!

So, what's important:
- Video link to the video (or to mega.nz, then I'll upload the video as “unlisted” for now and share the link here.)
- Content (subgame, mod, server, Luanti itself and its features)
- License (very important!)
- Video title (well... usually just the name of the mod, feature, server, or something like that)
- Video description for YouTube (author, important information, license)

The videos can be landscape or portrait format, should not be much longer than a minute (trailer!), and should also be viewable mute.

What videos are NOT meant:
- Explanatory videos (where you talk about a mod or a server for hours)
- Entire letsplays/letsshows (much too long as trailers)
- Videos like my own LetsPlay videos (who the hell uploads uncut 30-minute videos and calls that “content” !?)

What I have in mind (just as an idea):
- Short, snappy videos with a soundtrack as background music (license!)
- A few short texts as text overlays (can also be voiced over, but in such a way that you don't HAVE to listen to the videos with sound to understand what they're about)
- Exciting editing (we want to excite people, not bore them away!)

It doesn't matter if you already have videos that fit here or if you make new ones (which would be awesome, of course)... the main thing is that they are good, short, crisp, and exciting... just like a trailer!

Link to the YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@Luanti-org
Statistics: Posted by Walker — Thu Jan 29, 2026 04:40

Problems • Re: A most puzzling ore spawn issue

At the end of that function I wrote a debug print statement to confirm that many ores are in fact missing from the final table.

By the time your callback is called, it's too late to register new ores. You simply can't control what other mods will be doing with their ores. You now need to live with that fact in some way, like by splitting into a modpack that has modules for each different mod you want to play nicely with, or yelling at your users for not using your mod with the approved supported set of mods.

I link this thread a lot, and, it doesn't get to the really useful info very quickly, but the extended discussion is hopefully worth your time - "Solving circular dependencies with a more modular architecture".

Greetings everyone. I have been haunting this forum for almost a decade, and finally I've got an account 😁. So here's the situation...

Well it's nice to finally make your acquaintance. I'm sure you've been watching me since before I was appointed chief deleter of spam.

I saw a similar glitch: In MineClonia, you can add Ore variants, but it messes with other ore mods, like More Ores & Lucky Block Ore (MCL). Seriously, these mods need to get along with each other or the games will have issues resulting from them.
Statistics: Posted by ArceusI — Wed Jan 28, 2026 15:04

Problems • Re: A most puzzling ore spawn issue
Alright now I'm really confused. I've read the thread you posted, and the only meaningful thing I got from it (in this situation) is that register_on_mods_loaded() "creates a terrible race condition", which I'm sure I could understand if I really thought about how or why that might happen. In this case though, I'm not facing a dependency issue in the conventional sense. Rather I'm simply trying to ensure a stratum ore is placed in the world before a bunch of clusters that are otherwise placed in default stone just like that stratum. Otherwise the stratum will just replace the surrounding default stone wherever those clusters appear (as it does with my current "working" version of things).

I had no reason to believe that changing the order in which the ores are registered would make any difference since I don't know how the engine is processing the list of ores, but with the Simple X-Ray mod I can see huge voids where the strata have been placed before other ores, which tells me something is working as I had hoped with that new init.lua file. I really can't see how this would be an example of a race condition unless I understand what happens just before and after core.register_on_mods_loaded() is actually called, though I suppose it might explain why only some ores are registered while others in the same file are not.

I cannot imagine how splitting the mod into mod packs would solve this issue since it would actually reinforce the requirement that those other ores be registered before the stones in which they should not appear... The only solution I can think of is to just add supported mods as optional dependencies, remove the register_on_mods_loaded callback and leave everything else as it is, then add new files to the "Support" section to re-register any ores which would be supported. I know this works because that's what I was doing before I figured out how to copy the ores table before clearing it. It's a terrible solution though because it only works for mods which are listed as optional dependencies and leads to otherwise needless code copying...
Statistics: Posted by rg19 — Wed Jan 28, 2026 11:05

News • Re: Luanti 5.15.0

When I tried to launch the installer, Windows Defender blocked it. Should I trust it and run it anyway?

Yes, it is just an ordinary warning against an application without any digital signature, which Luanti developers haven't enrolled for on Windows.

I've tested it, and went back to 5.14.0, the graphics completely screwed up big time, as this post in the problems section shows: viewtopic.php?t=32299

I'd stay back in 5.14.0 till these graphical errors are fully resolved. Something went horribly wrong in the development of the update and it backfired horrendously.

Your problems are your own, in their own thread, and not typical. Without diminishing your own problems, please don't assume that your own experience has translated into everyone else's games as well. There are so many hardware and software factors at play.

Actually, I just found out that certain mods are the culprit to the graphical glitches. So now that topic has changed to a General Mod glitch, affecting numerous mods.
Statistics: Posted by ArceusI — Tue Jan 27, 2026 23:21
