Reading, books, nature.
This feels very @backlisted.bsky.social; Anita Brookner calling William Maxwell a master storyteller

Wasn’t sure what I would get when I saw this online for a fiver, but this is a decent copy! Looking forward to giving it a go.

Two little additions from the charity shop this week, both look interesting, have read neither of them. Has anyone here read them?

Here’s my top 12 of books enjoyed in 2023, one for each month. I could have chosen many more. Task of deciding what to start 2024 with now starts!

A recent trip to Edinburgh and some inevitable bookshop browsing, a small yet unmistakably @backlisted.bsky.social infused stack. Will be laid down for a few weeks and served in 2024. Cheers 🍷

A recent re-read, Franny and Zooey. A short but not necessarily quick read, I found it rewards a bit of time spent with it. Not sure I found this, or appreciated this, when I first read it.

This bookshop has an area that I think @iammilliam.bsky.social would approve of

Finished this today, quite a read, and best to know absolutely nothing about it. I remember the @backlisted.bsky.social episode on A Lonely Place, and being directed towards this one too. I’ve kept an eye on it since then to ensure I forgot all about it! and now tore through it. Brilliant.

A pretty scene this morning, love the unspoilt snow (was spoilt soon after this shot by the dog!)

A day of train delays, and finished my book early. A random purchase from the station WHS…. A good choice? Judged it by the cover alone!

Admired Harding, enjoyed Lynch, now for Murray …

If it’s mentioned in the same breath as My Phantoms then it’s worth a look if you ask me, @iammilliam.bsky.social . Blackwell’s was my friend here (after Nicky bought the abebooks copy!). #whatimreadingnextweek

My first Waugh… not long started but flying through

It contains a guide to the novel’s revisions by Moore, discussed by @iammilliam.bsky.social, and sharing here for interest. “No new lyricism or inner reverie” is my favourite bit I think!

I was in Wigtown for the book festival when the most recent Backlisted dropped, on Saturday, and so browsing the bookshops I decided to see if I could find the most recent book. Here, the World’s Classics Esther Waters by George Moore, the 1931 text.

Timeline in the other place has been full of people saying good this was, so I gave in! A great copy from Daunt Books, starting this today.
