The christmas cake has been inexpertly covered with home made marzipan (50/50 almonds/icing sugar, bind with egg white and a little rosewater). We’ll leave it to dry for a few days before covering with (shop bought!) fondant.

We’ve finally made @nigella.bsky.social ‘s Spruced Up Spice Cake. We’ve had the book for years and always said we must make it, but had never seen the tin (which is definitely what makes the cake so impressive) until this year. Love it!

Today’s #VinylFriday is Vince Guaraldi Trio’s classic soundtrack to the seasonal favourite ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ on snowflake vinyl. There are *so* many versions of this, I really wasn’t sure which one to get…

The potted tree has really suffered in this summer’s drought, so we’re giving it a year off. Out comes the cyan foil tree and the sci-fi themed decorations! #Christmas #ChristmasTree #Festive

While taking this picture of t’hubby’s table at the Oxford Indie Book Fair The Marquis de Carabas whispered in my ear ‘perfectly normal’ - today is going to be a strange day… #booksky

And it’s cooked! Needs to be wrapped in foil and completely cooled in the tin. It will then live in a Tupperware, wrapped in its foil, and be regularly unwrapped and anointed with brandy. A week before Xmas we’ll dress it up in marzipan, fondant and all manner of glitzy decorations!

Today is Christmas Cake day! Back to the rich fruit cake from Nigella Christmas this year. Minor panic when I realised the tin was too small, but fortunately it hadn’t gone in the oven yet! Crisis averted!

Today’s #VinylFriday is ‘Dusk’ by The The, a band that have never really been as successful as they deserve to be, though this album did well in the UK, peaking at 2 in the album chart. ‘Dogs of Lust’, ‘Love Is Stronger Than Death’ and ‘Slow Emotion Replay’ are the standout tracks.

Today’s #VinylFriday is Kylie Minogue’s ‘Impossible Princess’. I think it’s a bit of a lost gem, too easily dismissed as ‘indie-Kylie’. The three collaborations with #DaveBall are particularly good, especially ‘Breathe’.

I haven’t done a #VinylFriday in a while. Transparent gold edition of Goldfrapp’s sublime ‘Felt Mountain’…

I will forever associate Bundt tins with @nigella.bsky.social We *finally* bought the tin required for the ‘Spruced Up Vanilla Cake’ from her Christmas book. These are actually dinky ones to use as ornaments - which is definitely kitsch-adjacent, so may well appeal to her!

In honour of the upcoming Gene reunion shows today’s #VinylFriday is ‘Be My Light, Be My Guide’ on blue vinyl from the Sub Pop 1995 Helter Shelter boxed set, originally sold in support of the Shelter homeless charity. Also includes Supergrass, Elastica and S*M*A*S*H.
Nostalgiafest!

Bonus #VinylFriday. ‘International’ by Saint Etienne. It’s a showcase of all the styles the band have embraced over the years, and the interstitials are back! Definitely going out in a blaze of glory! I’m really going to miss them. #SaintEtienne

Today’s #VinylFriday is the ‘mustard’ release of ‘The Blue Elephant’ by Matt Berry, one of my purchases from last week’s Bandcamp Friday. A very 70s colour for groovy psychedelia!

We also entered an orchid (all the flowers disobligingly fell off one of the stems this week!) and two photos in the categories ‘Red’ and ‘Sculpture’.

It’s the annual horticultural society summer show today. A selection of our entries - Gooseberry Jam, Rhubarb and Ginger Gin and a cactus. #VillageLife #Jam #Gin #Flowers #Cactus

Today’s outing was to Gloucester. Sculpture trails are very much a ‘thing’ during the summer now and Gloucestershire’s lions were rather regal. This Gold Lion was by the Cathedral.

Day off today, so we had a day out in Coventry. My the Cathedral is stunning! I can only imagine what it would be like on a sunny day!
