It's hatch day! 🐛🐛🐛

I've never seen freshly hatched caterpillars (in person), and while I knew they'd be tiny, I still can't get over just how actually tiny they are. 🥹💚
Many tiny caterpillars, not even a day old, have munched a few small holes in the leaf of a nasturtium. Underneath a different nasturtium leaf is a smaller group of freshly hatched caterpillars. Some are taking their first bite of greenery, while a few finish eating up their eggshells.

It's all happening in the whisky barrel! The nasturtiums are eagerly blooming, and the calendulas are about to pop! 😃

I really liked the idea of having a "cue of care" to prevent my one neighbour from pulling up or spraying the plants. Originally, I just had the little bee figure, but I wasn't sure if that would be a clear enough sign, so I then got an actual sign. lol

And of course, Jaga had to supervise.

I'm envious of everyone's blossoming chives, but mine are still young, so I'll (try to) be patient. But in the whisky barrel, I spotted some buds on the calendula, and look at that nasturtium go! 😄💚

(I might need to relocate the bee cups, if anything grows taller, though. lol)

Despite the damage from cats and birds, my rainbow trugs are slowly coming along. 🌈🌱

A tree bumblebee enjoying some bee food (and nearly getting "tickled" by my daughter 😬). She was a bit damp when I found her, so she either got wet from the rain or a dip in the birdbath.

After a snack and drying off a bit more, she eventually got her energy back and flew off. ☺️

I was filling up water balloons for my daughter, and this bee was hovering around my hands, wanting a drink. So, I spritzed some water on the ground next to me, for it to safely quench its thirst. 💧🐝

I've had four long days of listening to chainsaws and breathing in smoke and ash. Not only do I want it to rain because we need it, but now I want it so it can pause the burning.

Dying for some fresh air, over here. 💀
Looking through the kitchen window, there's a plume of smoke rising into the late evening sky. It's coming from a wooded area, a couple buildings over. The same view as the previous photo, but standing outside, instead of looking through the window, and it's been four days. A tall tree is missing from the wooded area, and the rising smoke and ash continues.
