From 15-10 to 11-01, we proudly present 𝑆ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑒𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑠: 𝑂𝑛 𝑊𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑠, 𝑊𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠, an exhibition examining how colonialism shaped the ways museums, archives and other institutions of knowledge are perceived and understood, revealing the (im)material scars imposed by systemic violence.

Tussen 1965 en 1966 vond in Indonesië een verschrikkelijke slachting onder (vermeende) communisten plaats. De massamoord was mede geïnitieerd door de VS: onderdeel van de ‘heksenjacht’ op het communisme. Dat stelt de Amerikaanse historicus Vincent Bevins in zijn boek De Jakartamethode.

Through visual art and cultural archives, the exhibition emphasises the need to acknowledge and remember the decades of oppression and violence faced by the Indonesian and Papuan people – and to resist the ongoing silencing of these histories in dominant regional narratives.
