How can a species that over detects intention in the world become a religious species when no one who studies religion seems to be willing to be pinned down on what religion is, past it is what they study ?

Both, it’s both. I definitely needed the wood from the teardown on the previous renovation for this renovation and I needed the old iPod cable.

I don’t know maybe he should be treated like a normal English Monarch. They have been beheaded, driven out of office, not permitted to take office, not allowed to rule and deposed. For all the accusations of tyranny levelled against English Monarchs the US is building a firmer Tyranny.

There were also those incredibly terrifying (to me ) electric radiant heaters and kerosine space heaters, the guard between me and a red hot glowing element were two pieces of bent wire. Kids in nylon nighties were often burnt when the nighty caught fire.

I used to work at a factory that built custom electronics. The people building up the items used to smoke as they built them. They used to breathe the cigarette smoke right into boxes as they were doing the assembly. I cannot think that did anything for the reliably or lifespan of the product.

it was certainly taker seriously by people who should have known better. This was before both sidesism was invented but a lot of people already felt that way.

I have my father in law’s wool blanket with the big cigarette burns in them. He was well off enough not to have synthetic blankets so he survived.

I once watched two of my smoking friends get into a car and before they both lit up they both wound down the windows ( pre air conditioning pre power windows). I asked another friend who was watching them go “ aren’t they wasting the smoke “ he replied “ even smokers hate cigarette smoke “.

“ typing it out “ is expressing an idea. Handing a text to an artist instead of a machine to produce visual art seems to cut out the middle thing. Search through google seems a strange concept. If one cannot articulate an idea in text or sketch does one have an idea.

To be clear the scope of computing has been growing for two hundred years, but that is because compute costs have been dropping, compute is no longer human or mechanical, but nothing important has happened to compute in the last decade. AI is coined 1956. Cybernetics was coined 1947. Old Stuff.

Automation has been a thing since at least governors on steam engines. Data collection built IBM. These things do not even need computers. Real businesses have been built on this stuff for centuries. I think Cybernetics sounds cooler .

I suspect the first step in having an intelligent discussion on the social and economic impact of “ AI “ is to define some terms. To wrench definitions away from snake oil salesmen. I suspect with that step cleared there may be more agreement then you infer.
