I would rather they be competing for championships right now, but getting to watch Maxey, VJ, and McCain every day isn’t so bad in the meantime.

That’s would I would do. I’m thinking by VJ’s third year they’ll be ready to go. But MOC—who surely knows more than I do—said “if things continue along the current trend with Embiid, I would be stunned if he’s still on the team in 14 months.”

To my mind, the path to being very good is: hope VJ and/or Jared explodes; keep trying to make smaller, helpful deals like the Grimes trade; and nail future draft picks. It will be difficult and sometimes frustrating, but I think slow and steady is the way to go.

To trade Embiid, I think the Sixers would have to attach the 2028 Clippers pick, but I think that pick, along with their own 2027 pick, are two of their best opportunities to get a player who will help Maxey.

(MOC mentions a waive & stretch but I don’t think that’s allowed under the CBA because the stretched amount would be > 15% of the cap)

Embiid is a little trickier because he has not been very good and he is such a unique player that I think the team does play differently depending on whether he’s in or out, which is surely challenging. But even setting my loyalty aside, I don’t think it’s worth trying to trade him.

The PG situation is pretty simple to me: he has been good when healthy, he plays a position of need, and I don’t think his being in or out is all that disruptive. I think it’s unlikely that anyone the Sixers could get in return (+ any cap space) would be more helpful.
