Oh absolutely agree with you. My total benefits income is around the same to be fair - I don’t know where people have gotten the idea that benefits=rich.

And she had to take over 18 months off work. Because we had no emergency funds, because we could afford to save, we went in to a tonne of debt that resulted in an IVA. And this is going back 15 years… the costs have only gotten bigger since then. So 71K a year is actually pretty accurate. (4)

When I lived with my mum and her ex they made a joint income of around £56K a year and that was JUST ENOUGH to cover necessary everything - we had no emergency funds at all and if something went kaput we were screwed. As it stands, a lot went kaput, my mum got injured (3)

To pay all necessary bills (I’m not talking frivolities), rent or mortgage, buy food and other NECESSARY supplies (eg menstrual products, deodorant, shower gel etc), AND SAVE MONEY for any emergencies. (2)

I hate to be “that person” but I’m gonnabe. Min wage is £12.71… a 40 hour work week (which is pretty standard at this point) is £508.40. That paid for 52 weeks of the year (which many don’t get because seasonal etc) is only £26,436. With the rising costs of everything that isn’t enough (1)
