My PhD has been in "tool-making" so naturally, this will be informed by much of my work in recent years (and yes, also on generative AI and our present moment).

The idea here being that there is a sort of person who makes more messes than they clean and produces more waste than they compost, and that kind of person likely finds genAI to be much lower risk.

(Yes, this is a completely unscientific, vibes based assumption but I am probably right.)

To me, Alice is a person who lived so ferociously and with such earnestness, I couldn't help but feel more hope.

It's our time to be the oracles and to be the ancestors of the next generation of lost and ashamed ones, who find themselves.

Disability Visibility was the first time I ever read a piece about someone with a similar disability as mine (one that isn't just invisible but that people don't want to acknowledge).

As a cis white guy, I didn't even know I needed representation like that. I didn't even know I had that much shame.

This had been a hard week for me, too. I've been thinking about my immune weakness and mortality, since I caught the flu at VIS last week. It's been rough.

Someday, I'll run out of time, too. I hope to have been a light for others, whenever my time rolls around. Alice was a brilliant beacon.

This is only page 3 and I'm so invested in learning more from this author. Luddite as an insult certainly gets thrown around a lot these days, and I'm happy to have their concise clarification on what side of history that movement was on at the very start of the book.

I've wanted to do this for a while. It's a hellscape nowadays trying to get simple tasks done.
