You’ll probably be inundated with comments, so I’ll get mine in early: Bowie, Newcastle City Hall 1978 for a fiver in row 4 — £27.50 in today’s prices according to the Bank of England!

Spent many a happy hour there working on the Hilsenrath-Nachlaß. One of my favourite archives!

Some fascinating items from “Out of the Box”, an exhibition of 75 years of the archives of the Akademie der Künste Berlin. The exhibition runs until January 2026, and we start with the Tin Drum from movie and novel with the same name.

Really looking forward to interviewing @johnharris1969.bsky.social @ilkleylitfest.bsky.social. #MaybeImAmazed is my personal choice for book of the year; a tender, deeply moving memoir about music and autism — and essential reading!

Always love the pre-event calm of an empty hall and the quiet choreography of sound and light checks.
With the brilliant and ebullient @stuartmaconie at #IlkleyLiteratureFestival. In a very crowded field, his fascinating book manages to cast a fresh light on the Beatles story. #WordUpNorth

And he’s back!!

Sunday isn’t Sunday without Stewart Lee. We were so thrilled at @thenerve.news that Stewart came with us.

His satirical columns for the Observer were some of our most-read content: funny, surreal, angry true. Essential weekend reading.

“True reunification of Germany will remain a work in progress. Every year more young Germans are entering adulthood with no personal memory of anything other than life in the “new” Germany.

The highlight of a visit to the always wonderful @stedelijkmuseum.bsky.social Amsterdam; Egyptian artist Wael Shawky’s film of his Drama 1882. On until the end of October, and one of the most original things I’ve seen in quite a while.

Libero is consistently excellent and so varied. As for today’s “chin-stroking” surprised we didn’t get any Gramsci “The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.” But hey, Theseus’ Ship!

I wrote about foreign academics being in danger in the US last week.

christinapagel.substack.com/p/trumps-att...

This week the Canadian Association of University Teachers advised against non-essential US travel.

I meet 2 criteria - never thought I'd be scared to go to the US. horrible.
