Consumers in Germany with flexible contracts can earn money between 12 and 3 pm today by using lots of electricity. There is a glut in the system due to lots of solar generation and low weekend consumption.

The leader of Germany's far-right AfD claimed yesterday that the country has the "highest energy prices in the world."

Der Spiegel found this to be wrong. Germany comes 9th, behind countries such as Italy & Ireland. Many countries heavily subsidise energy prices, making direct comparisons difficult

In contrast to India, Pakistan's delegate goes out of her way to praise the Azerbaijan presidency's handling of the negotiations, but also acknowledges that her country sees "critical gaps in decisions we adopted" at #COP29.

EU delegate defends the deal on the new climate finance goal and pledges that the $300 BN will be delivered on. He also reiterates EU position that additional donors (e.g. China) need to chip in and calls #COP29 a "truly complex but impressive week of diplomacy." Curious to see who agrees with him.

Further critical comments on the #NCQG decision at #COP29 from Bolivia and Nigeria, whose delegate calls in "an insult" and says countries have a right to decide whether to back it or not.

The meek response from the Azerbaijan presidency in each case is "I take note of your statement."

Following the gaveling of the the #NCQG deal at #COP29, immediate criticism from Cuba and then a strong blast from the Indian delegate who calls the decision a "continuation of several unfortunate incidents" and accuses the Azerbaijan presidency and secretariat of having "stage managed" the vote.

That's it, the #COP29 presidency just gaveled the devision on the "new collective quantifiable goals" (i.e. money to assist poor countries with tackling climate change) with a target of $300 billion a year but lack of clarity on how that money will be sourced and from whom.

The slogan of #COP29 - "In solidarity for a green world" - seems like a bit of a dark joke in light of the minimal progress made at this year's UN climate talks.

I suspect some of the subtlety got lost in translation here.

Parts of #Germany are currently experiencing severe flooding. This is not the seasonal snowmelt that mainly affects the larger rivers (such as in the 1st picture below), but instead the result of days of intense rainfall that is swamping fields (see pic 2) and towns.

To be fair, lots of French homes had electric heatings as recently as 2018.
