You could say Grimsby was a freak result if you want but in the context of his planning and decision-making during the whole time it is only the most egregious example of his rigidity and inability to adapt. There are plenty of others. The direction of travel was a bit back and forth IMO

Like @danielharris.bsky.social says, the system requires so much of, for example, the wide CBs that if you have those sort of elite players who can do all that is required, why do you need three of them?

I don't disagree that this was his aim but there was no sign he was achieving this. The issue with, say, the formation was not about being familiar but more that it just didn't work in the PL and the sort of elite players you need to make it work make the formation superfluous anyway

TBH since the Grimsby game I felt like whatever we thought was hoping to happen with Amorim wasn't going to happen. Over the course of the season so far we have seen progress but we've also seen plenty of self-inflicted wounds and an inability to think on his feet.

I think there's been plenty of patience from the fans. Finishing 15th as a "top 6" team, never mind United is a huge problem. 6th now but still closer to Leeds in 16th place than Villa in 3rd. There's only 4 points between 5th and 14th and that could easily reshuffle over a few match weeks

Emery is a decent manager but it just did not click with Arsenal and they were right to replace him with Arteta. Amorim could very well be successful elsewhere but it just didn't work at United

I think a lot of fans fell into the trap of assuming that because a proper reset and rebuild requires sacrifices and short term pain that because we had this pain that meant a reset/rebuild was taking place but pain doesn't always lead to gain. Sometimes it's just pain.

Yup and Cunha has been so deep and central that Sesko’s had to cover the left side too. Has looked like a 3-4-1-2 at times

This stuff drives me crazy. The correct conclusion when a headbanger “makes a good point” is to wonder whether you might actually have been wrong about that “good point”. The “good points” are the gateway drug into headbangery

Can’t see him playing Ugarte, Cas & Licha in a midfield three tho. More likely back to 3-4-3 with Dorgu in the Mbuemo position

Also got hit on the head in Mallorca by a frisbee thrown by Dickie Rock when I was a kid

The gasps when Tattaglio stabs Luca Brasi in the hand prior to his garotting!

Daughter enjoyed the movie and was surprised that there was nothing hokey about a 50 yr old movie apart from the awful Sonny Carlo beating which clangs every time

It’s a bit of a Christmas perennial for me. Not like every Christmas but most of my rewatches are around this time of year

Just had the absolute pleasure of watching it yesterday with my 22 yr old daughter who had never seen it before. Next up is the marginally superior Godfather 2
