But you weren't actually independent until the ratification of the treaty of Paris. Untill then it was a matter of a shhocking breakdown of law and order inside the realm.

Loyal subject of King Charles.

You are tight about that, basic thermodynamics says you never get 100% recovery

Storage. The hope is that you can store energy more densely so power big things that need range like trucks and ships.

Also hydrogen is a potential imtermittency fix. Make hydrogen when the sun shines (or wind blows).

Or we could get the demand side going by making blue hydrogen (from natural gas) and sequestering the resulting carbon dioxide by CCS.

There is a danger in green politics that the unarguable need to decarbonise to lever in other political objectives to the detriment of making progress

Then there is the question of how to build a hydrogen economy (green steel, fuel cell powered ships....)

We are trying to scale up green hydrogen generation (electrolysis of water) but that technology is not available today. We could wait to start developing hydrogen driven applications

Whatever you think about Starmer CCS is probably an essential technology.

First cement making in which limestone is converted to lime (CaCO3->CaO+CO2) inherently releases CO2 ( and uses a lotbof energy to run the ovens which do this). Cement making is 5%+ of total global CO2 production.
