The one-plot summary of what Elon Musk did to Twitter.

This is where it gets wild 👇

In 2020, Twitter use was highest among people who loved Democrats and disliked Republicans.

By 2024, it completely flipped: the more polarized Republican you are, the more you use Twitter/X.

From blue stronghold → red megaphone. All for just $44 billion.

Great work, congrats!

Did you look at whether underserved languages might be disproportionately relying on machine-assisted moderation (not sure if this information is available though)?

Social media platforms operate globally, but do they allocate human moderation equitably across languages?

Our new WP shows the answer is no:

-Millions of users post in languages with zero moderators
-Where mods exist, mod count relative to content volume varies widely across langs

AI-assisted social media posting increases the volume of content people produce. However, that content is perceived as lower quality than purely human-generated posts. A dangerous spiral that may flood social media with low-quality content. Results from a controlled study: arxiv.org/abs/2506.14295

This is a poor argument against LLM simulations. It suggests that LLM-based behavioral models should capture nuances that no model ever has (do agent-based models go to the toilet?). Ofc, ABM is meant to be interpretable, but social science also needs predictive power (where LLM simulations excel)

1. A large and growing literature on "generative agent-based modeling" aims to study social science questions by using LLMs to simulate the behavior of people in naturalistic situations.

I think it's a lost cause, for the same reason I was sent to the principal's office in third grade.
