Sega received the U.S. rights for the movie late in the game's development. They modeled the building after Nakatomi and the player 1 character after John McClane.

I still think it's funny that the japanese covers for old Simpsons games used to edit them to have five fingers, because of the whole yakuza association with having four fingers.
