Many people are unhappy with the Greens over e.g. SNP austerity. Obviously someone who's completely happy with the Greens has no reason to join YP, but that's the case regardless of whether we have a transphobia problem to deal with or not. People *unhappy* with the Greens should consider joining.

I'm not going to tell trans people what they "should" be doing; I personally think it's a good idea for as many trans people to *join* rn and make their voices heard. If the party does turn out reactionary you can always leave again and not vote for them, as indeed I would myself.

At the moment, local meetings tend to be open to the general public and widely advertised. My suggestion to you would be *don't* sign up, *don't* give us your money, but go along to one and meet the members - no strings. If you hate it, at least you can come back here and gloat about how I'm wrong!
October 25, 2025 at 4:54 PM
Nobody had any idea who he was before he got involved with Corbyn, and still nobody I've met in the party particularly cares what he has to say, as far as members go he's irrelevant. He may have wiggled his way inside the coat but I'm confident he can be shaken back out of it just as easily.
October 25, 2025 at 3:22 PM
That's fair enough. My hope is some might see this and respond.

What you could do if you wanted is attend a local meeting without joining (they tend to be widely advertised, and at the moment are open to anyone including non-members). Based on my experience, you'd def meet trans members there.
October 25, 2025 at 3:03 PM
I think that question would be better put to the trans members who *have* joined and are already involved, I'm not going to attempt to speak on their behalf. All I can say is that I *would like* you to join and help shape this party, and that I will try everything I can to remove any such hurdles.
October 25, 2025 at 2:55 PM
No, to shape those opinions from the ground up.
October 25, 2025 at 2:51 PM
I'm sorry but that's just bad faith, I had started typing this second post before you had even posted about the Serwotkas and you gave me less than a minute before accusing me of "avoiding" something. To respond - I have had zero involvement with anything to do with them so I can't comment.
October 25, 2025 at 2:50 PM
I don't "demand" anything of trans people; I would *like* more trans people to get involved and be part of these local discussions, the regional assemblies, and the national conference. That said, I haven't thus far attended *any* meetings that didn't have multiple trans comrades joining in already.
October 25, 2025 at 2:42 PM
Local "proto-branch" meetings attended by several dozen members each have unanimously voted through statements/motions that include support for trans rights, none that I've seen have voted through anything to the contrary. I would hardly call that "vibes".
October 25, 2025 at 2:41 PM
Yes we do, or at least I do, because I'm involved in organising and have met hundreds of members already. All of them have voiced support for trans rights and opposition to transphobes remaining in the party. Could be a biased sample, but I see no reason why it would be.
October 25, 2025 at 2:36 PM
I am as confident as Linda that the member vote *will* decide exactly that. There's no contradiction.
October 25, 2025 at 2:34 PM
Hardly "completely different". I agree with Linda that YP *will* do all of those things, and I'm sure Linda is just as aware as I am that the only reason we haven't *already* done them is that conferences haven't happened yet.
October 25, 2025 at 2:30 PM
All I see is they shared details for a protest. That's hardly a "statement".
October 25, 2025 at 2:27 PM
Yes, because that would certainly not be "my party"
October 25, 2025 at 2:19 PM
The Your Party Scotland website and social media accounts were set up by individual activists to ensure that organising information (events) could be publicised and that they weren't snapped up by a random troll. That hardly enables them to dictate policy pronouncements on behalf of the membership.
October 25, 2025 at 2:18 PM
How can there be, Beth, when there is currently no one with any democratic legitimacy to make policy decisions? I think we can all agree we don't want the Independent Alliance imposing all their opinions on us, and as for the people managing social media, they weren't elected either.
October 25, 2025 at 2:16 PM
We do have power, or we will, at the Regional Assemblies and the Founding Conference (if selected) happening next month - and we certainly plan to stand up for your rights and against transphobes (and landlords!) in those spaces, alongside our trans comrades attending.
October 25, 2025 at 2:14 PM
There are prominent transphobes present in the party, there is no current process to kick them out but everyone wants to make it happen as soon as there is, nobody who isn't already a transphobe cares what they have to say, and I'm responding to it right now.
October 25, 2025 at 2:05 PM
Where has @yourparty.scot made statements on Gaza?
October 25, 2025 at 2:02 PM
No, people are seeing transphobia when they look at what a handful of coattail-riding reactionary MPs most members want to see booted out are saying. Unfortunately regular members like me don't all have the same visibility as MPs do, but we sure can outvote them in the party.
October 25, 2025 at 2:01 PM
Aww, and there I thought I was the gayest 😭
October 25, 2025 at 1:53 PM
Correct, as of right now we don't formally have a position on *anything* because those positions are up to a democratic decision by members. If you want an idea of what the positions *will* be, look at what members are saying or, better yet, join us and be part of the conversation 😊
October 25, 2025 at 1:52 PM
Zarah has made statements affirming trans rights. Both Jeremy and Zarah are just making statements as individuals as nobody is currently in an elected position to speak on behalf of the membership.
October 25, 2025 at 1:45 PM
From everything I've seen from the membership, trans rights *will* be part of the platform just as soon as there *is* a platform for them to be part of.
