@johngreensbluesky.bsky.social your writing on chronic illness in Everything Is Tuberculosis brought me to tears. Thank you for writing this book.

🧪 We found the cause of COVID-19 in less than a month. So why did it take a decade to (maybe?) find the pathogen behind sea star wasting disease? My latest is a deep-dive for @undark.org into why we’re so bad at identifying the root cause of marine epidemics in invertebrates.
The Long Quest to Uncover a Sea Star Killing Bacteria
Scientists say they’ve found the cause of a marine epidemic more than 10 years after it started. What took so long?

Excellent work by @fredakreier.bsky.social

Check out her latest story for @migrainecollab.bsky.social, which covers a recent clinical trial of an anti-CGRP antibody to treat both migraine AND comorbid depression. #headache #migraine #fremanezumab

🧪 It's not just you: people who take some CGRP antibodies for #migraine are less depressed compared to a placebo group. You know, probably because they have fewer migraines. But maybe because it works on some biological system! My latest for the Migraine Science Collaborative:
New Clinical Trial Results: Anti-CGRP Treatment Improves Migraine and Comorbid Depression - Migraine Science Collaborative
The first study of its kind shows that fremanezumab could be an effective drug to manage this common comorbidity of migraine.

🧪 It’s true: veterans who live in some parts of the US have higher rates of #dementia than their peers in other parts of the country. My latest for @aarpfoundation.bsky.social
Your Dementia Risk May Depend on Your ZIP Code
Why are rates highest in the Southeast and lowest in the mid-Atlantic?

🧪 Earlier today I was called out by an anonymous account for only seeking a single source for this story, and they've since written an 800+ word blog post about how bad at my job I am, calling me a "bullshit alleged profession idiot."

So let's talk about it, in a 🧵

🧪Source request: Are you a father in academia trying your best to be an equal partner in parenting? Do you want to tell me about why you think that is important? If so, please reach out! I'll only be able to speak to 1 source (it's a short piece), but tell me about your situation & it could be you!

🧪Anyone know of any cool ways animals have changed their *behavior* to survive in cities? Example: lovebirds in Arizona using air conditioning vents to stay cool during the summer.

🧪I'm looking for studies that explain WHY fruit ripen (and why they suck to eat/are toxic before they are ripe). This is proving surprisingly hard. Are any plant folks out there able to lend a hand?

🧪Here's a story that made me go "cool!" and then made me sad. Capuchin monkeys are abducting vulnerable howler infants -- and it might be because they're bored. My latest for @scinews.bsky.social
