The great Patrons of old did not receive tax write-offs. The Roman Maecenas was patron of the epic poet Virgil, Cangrande della Scala of Dante, Lorenzo de’ Medici of many artists and painters, none of whom received tax write-offs.

In his 1949 book, The Origin and Goal of History, German philosopher Karl #Jaspers discusses what he calls the Axial Period, ranging from about 800 BC to 200 BC. Jaspers sees it as the axis around which all of subsequent history revolves, creating, quote, the “unity of the whole of history.”

Dec 4, I had the pleasure of seeing Shakespeare's Pericles performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater! Saw Pericles too in 2016 at Canada's Stratford Festival. The RSC gave a powerful rendition. Dramatic use of Tableau!
