Mostly Arsenal and some F1. If you're really unlucky I might start talking about norwegian tax law.

What is this? No club should ever pledge three years to a manager.

If he's being truthful, he shows how little he knows about football (or maybe even business). If he's lying, why? To stop the grumblings? Can't wait to see how that plays out. "We have decided so no use in complaining."

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pledged to give Ruben Amorim three years to prove himself as a “great coach” at Manchester United.

Do you agree with the decision?

I don't know how much Arteta is involved in these decisions, but I think he's really into squad harmony. Especially for the in-group (which is just about everyone these days). No controllable factor is going to derail this season.

This is really good.

After reading the first paragraph I can't help but wonder if the whole fanbase collectively thought this in silence... Because I did.

Man City

Won 6 of the last 8 PL’s.

Have the worlds best manager, most prolific striker, best DM & now best GK.

Have the 2nd most expensively assembled squad (because Chelsea 🙄).

Average fee per player is £18.5m more than Arsenal’s.

No excuses for Arsenal.

More of this. Saturday game. Comfortable 2-0. No fuzz. No talking points. Just 3 points in the bag. Only downside is more injuries.

This reminds of when Almunia was eligible.

To my recollection we haven't had these issues in the CL. Although MLS got off easy against PSV last season. Probably the second yellow I would have the least issue with last season. We do complain about a low bar for free kicks, but that's part of the competition and they're consistent so it's OK.

So the referees won't make or break your season in terms of levels, but within your level small margins can change your position.

Arsenal probably can improve on handling their discipline, but I don't think there should be a lingering fear of the ref finding a reason to give a yellow.

It would have been an even greater scandal if the "good process" goal was a title decider.

Yes, I agree, but I'm not going into re-litigation of Trossard/Rice 😅 my greatest annoyance has been how many cards we get for taking too long on throw-ins.

Last season it didn't matter what the refs did, but the season before we lost the title by a point. Then you want them as good as possible.

This is obviously opinionated from mye side, but I think the appointment of Oliver highlights the lack of accountability. He used to be the best referee in the country, but he hasn't been for the last 2-3 years. Something the PGMOL hasn't picked up on.

Champions league is a spring time activity these days. I may turn it on, but I hardly know when or who we play in the league phase. Doesn't really matter.
iainmacintosh.bsky.social
The sad thing about this Champions League format is that it could be fun if only 16 teams went through.

But if you can lose in Turkey or draw in the Arctic Circle and say, "Ah, it's ok. We only need three wins and two draws, we'll be fine," it's not much of a draw.
fredrikhoie.bsky.social
Yes, but VAR only reviews match defining situations, so that's in its nature. I don't think we're in disagreement here, but the fact that it was a penalty situation does not change the bar for intervention.
fredrikhoie.bsky.social
For me it's more about the overturn than the judgement of a foul or not. Webb has made statements earlier that indicates that a touch does not immediately mean no penalty. Therefore it's hard to swallow that this was never a penalty and had to be overturned.

It also reminded me of the game against Brighton a few years back where Caicedo injured Martinelli in a retaliatory fashion. I'm pretty sure we had played Newcastle the game before, and when Martinelli went into a challenge I remember thinking he played with the Newcastle bar, and it was dangerous.
fredrikhoie.bsky.social
By allowing it, the only way to survive is to rise to their level. Livramento was the one who suffered yesterday. It was an unfortunate landing, but I feel quite confident Saliba does not make that challenge in any other game.
fredrikhoie.bsky.social
A little reflection after yesterday. I think we have to get rid of the notion that Newcastle are "hard" and "physical". They're violent, and the refs need to stamp down on it. No one tackles from behind anymore, but Joelinton did it in the first minute. Give the yellow.
fredrikhoie.bsky.social
On the calmer side, Gyökeres impressed me today.

I don't look at our team and think "who's going to score here?" I fancy Saka, Trossard, Martinelli, Gyökeres, Cala, Eze and Merino might just pop up with one. Today it was Merino.

Big Gabby is king!

He's just so good. A hero. Poor man has to play everything, and it shows at the end of games. Hope Benoit Blanc can give him some much needed rest soon.
fredrikhoie.bsky.social
And this is why I don't turn off these games. The feeling I have now is unbeatable. Will probably be top 3 feelings of the season.
fredrikhoie.bsky.social
I am so happy. 3 points and we don't have to go back there for a year.

The irony of Joelinton getting a yellow for kicking the ball away.
fredrikhoie.bsky.social
I wish we had Madueke now, but I think Martinelli could do some damage to Trippier.

I wrote in my group chat that I wanted to do the same. Just come back and see the result. Takes too much out of me.
