Enjoy the #HomeAssistant release!

(Thanks for the meme @jlpouffier.fr 😆)

Yeah... I feel you. I'm kinda afraid of the after-sales support myself 😅
frenck.social
Not for the ones I've mentioned. Maybe in a future opening 👍

I wish all countries had those rules 👌

2/2: Also, instead of people scrolling through footage events an watching actual footage (the spy); getting only a written summary of useful information is faster and less intrusive.

Will tech be used badly? Yes, it always has, not just tech. Should people only recod their own property? 1000%

1/2 I think it changes the fact that a commercial company does it locally (and avoid analyzing shit in a bad evil cloud) is something in a better direction.

Al this cloud and especially AI in the cloud stuff is f-ing bullshit and dangerous.
frenck.social
Good! It should be like that everywhere I the world 👍

I don’t want to ruin your day… but you realize that cameras en recorders already exists for decades and have been everywhere…

I am not saying that is a good thing, nor I am saying it justifies anything, I am saying that that fact isn’t new.

Depends, Home Assistant, in general, tries to be generic for all devices out there; this also means that not every specific feature of a specific manufacturer or device would be available. We aim for standardisation and unification, not specialisation.
frenck.social
Yeah agree, that part could be better; not just in Reolink's integration, but in Home Assistant in general.
frenck.social
Interesting, what do you find lacking?

As in, in terms of integration code quality, the thing is platinum; it is supported by Reolink and above all, they are a Works with Home Assistant partner (meaning we test and have certified many of their products).

So curious to learn about :)

They will introduce a new NVR next year (which was showcased at IFA). I've been told the thing runs the AI models locally (Ollama-based).
frenck.social
Spotted at IFA: Reolink’s local Vision AI blew me away.

Ask your camera what happened in the last 24h… and it just tells you.
Soon, even without clouds. Just local AI smarts.

Honestly, this changes everything 👀 🤯

Screenshot of Reolink’s Vision AI interface showing a timeline of detected events outside a house, including people, cars, and packages. The interface displays time-stamped summaries of activity, demonstrating the system’s ability to answer questions like “What happened in front of the house?”

You know you can rename the items in the automation, right?
So that the overview becomes something that works for you and makes it more understandable?
frenck.social
Good to hear! ❤️
frenck.social
So, on mobile, wouldn't you used to end up with, basically the endless scrolling of doom to get through your larger automations?
frenck.social
Hehe no worries, I'm an YAML guy myself as well 😃
frenck.social
Let’s be real… 🧠 ⚙️

The new Automation Sidebar in Home Assistant 2025.9 finally makes building automations feel a lot better.

Curious how it’s working out for you 🫵
Are we heading in the right direction with the editor? 🤔
