It's beta week! The last Home Assistant beta of 2025 starts Wednesday.
Santa might have snuck some gifts into this one to close out the year ๐ŸŽ„

Not gonna lie, I can't wait for you all to see what's coming.
Any guesses on what Santa brought? ๐ŸŽ…

Quick spoiler for 2025.11...

You know that feeling when you're building an automation and you have NO idea which "Motion Sensor" is which? Or how many lights you're actually about to control?

No more guessing. ๐ŸŽฏ

That feeling when you're moving soon but don't have keys yet, so you just lie awake at 11pm browsing smart locks and camera specs instead.

Just me?

Wrote a blog post about the exciting agony of planning a smart home you can't touch yet ๐Ÿ‘‡

Moving to a new smart home: The exciting agony of not having the keys yet
I'm moving to a new place mid-December, and I can't sleep. Not from stress, but from the overwhelming excitement of building a smart home from scratch. Where do I even start? My brain won't shut up about all the possibilities.

By the way, if you aren't using Home Assistant yet, now's a great time to start. You don't have to own the house you're in, you don't have to change any wiring, you don't have to do anything expensive. If you have any inexpensive old computers/laptops laying around, they're perfect for this. /cont'd

Quick vlog time: Why I think Home Assistant should rename "add-ons" to "apps" ๐Ÿ”ฅ

The problem: newcomers see Add-ons and Integrations and have no idea which one to use. The names don't explain the difference.

Renaming Home Assistant add-ons to apps (here's why)
I opened an architecture proposal to rename Home Assistant "add-ons" to "apps"; and it's sparked quite the discussion. In this vlog, I explain why this seemingly small change actually matters for newcomers, why "add-ons" creates confusion, and what's happening in the community debate. What do you think? Apps, add-ons, or something else? Let me know in the comments! Filmed on my way to GitHub Universe 2025 โœˆ๏ธ Key points: - Why new users get confused between add-ons and integrations - How "apps" creates a clearer mental model - Zero functional changes, just better naming - Community alternatives being discussed ๐Ÿ”” Enjoyed the video? Coming later this year, partners can provide agents. For example, using Claude directly in the GitHub interface, just like you can use and assign just like you can do with GitHub Copilot today. I love that they bring choice to the GitHub platform.
