art is as important to me as heart is because art, even when dull, is an expression of the state of the heart. I only wish to come across more artists expressing themselves openly

my goal has always been to understand the hearts of those I care for. it's not only interesting to me but important for my own heart. I want to connect with those around me in a real way. I want to focus on that even more this year. the world makes it hard, but I'll find ways as I always have

it's why, even though in the past year I've stopped sharing many personal things, I've continued to share art of those I appreciate. if there's anything I'd ever want out of social media, it's for it to actually bring people together, and expression through art/writing is a wonderful way to do that

the unfortunate part is that the internet has severely decayed with social media and AI. the artists and fans that I follow are the last remaining bits of humanity that make me want to reach out

I want to understand my culture, but I feel as though I have none where I live. I feel a disconnect from my parent's homeland and my own. so instead, I've built a culture with those I've surrounded myself with online. those lost, weird, and seeking something they can't elsewhere

as a child of immigrants it's always been a struggle to understand pop culture because I didn't know what was "in" and even when I made an effort to, it felt like I was trying to fit in rather than understand the people around me. the art here feels like it connects me to those around, and I love it

it's hard not to feel like the resistance to immigrants influencing local culture is exactly what kills culture. I couldn't tell you what culture there is where I live because it feels like the culture is incredibly dull and lacking substance. there's history, but that's all there is

I went to the art gallery today and it pissed me off, not because of the artists displayed there, but because the works they showcased were all reminders of how much we've regressed as a society in the US. indigenous & immigrant celebrated works with reminders that police brutality is never ending

I've stumbled into so many different stores with various works from artists in BC. I'm sure it's hard to participate at times, but I'm glad there's avenues for it. comics, zines, post cards, stickers, etc, from all kinds of local artists. it's awesome to see
