hollow knight unironically became a lot easier to control once I started thinking of it as a super smash instead of a dark souls

My experience was that Hollow Knight is very “spacey” (you just need to move to the right positions on screen) which makes everything feel frantic and chaotic, while Nine Sols is very “timey” (you just need to parry with the right rhythm) which makes everything feel controlled and precise

for example, the bouncy purple shroom platforming sections over acid were really really frustrating ;-; they're fine now with acid immunity and the wings, but before then they were a nightmare

even just the fact that they can bounce you sideways, frequently tossed me directly into acid/enemies

I frequently get really annoyed with contact damage and the included knockback from said contact damage, as well as the directional attacks always getting me annoyed bc I was slightly off

comparing it to nine sols, I think I prefer nine sols gameplay and its smaller scale, but the NPC/enemy designs of HK are a lot more captivating, just the whole the vibe and the VO of all the characters, it's adorable c:

is Hollow Knight rendered to an HDR buffer and then tonemapped?

they definitely make use of color grading, but in certain places it kinda looks like they have tonemapping as well, which is pretty neat

I generally agree with this idea if you can pull it off, but I'm not 100% sure it works on a map of this scale, with so many similar looking sections, and when the traversal doesn't feel very rewarding on its own (to me at least)

I also wish the map was less abstracted, it's a little too simplified to me

my brain now has to track like five different "that long vertical shaft area full of enemies with exits scattered along each side" that all look the same on the map, but very different once you're there

I wasn't prepared for the enormous size of Hollow Knights world, good lord

I don't mind lots of content, but I feel like the fast travel points are almost intentionally designed to force you to take the long way around while passing by shortcuts that won't open up until you don't need them anymore

salad at the vet with debris from inside his ear scattered across his fur after he got his ear cleaned at the vet. he's got a fungal infection and an inflammation in one of his ears, probably due to a foreign object getting stuck. it's treatable and he'll be fine! (physically)

I have a weird GPU/driver (?) issue

*sometimes* when viewing photos in google photos, there is a zone limited to the right side of the screen, where the colors are off and some parts look grayscale

when taking a screenshot, it doesn't happen anymore, even to me *while* taking the screenshot

a recreation of the issue I'm seeing on my monitor. this is approximate, but looks very very similar. moving the image around changes the pattern sometimes, and sometimes it goes away. I *think* I've only seen it happen in chrome, but seeing as merely taking a screenshot in windows makes it 100% go away, it seems like it might be GPU/driver related? idk what's going on
