If a hundred people read five pages of her books and quit in disgust, she makes the same amount of money as the author to her left who read five hundred pages and loved it. And that author goes broke, and only the shit merchant is left. That's what this is about. It's legal. It's scummy.

If you cared, if you did research, you would understand that this is an article about a woman trying to game the algorithms of Kindle Unlimited to steal money from authors that work harder than her. She's using AI to generate hundreds of books no one will finish, because they don't have to.

And time and time and time again the people who say "AI is just a tool" and carefully ignore all of the context of that tool make it clear that they do not give a single solitary shit about how other people are approaching a conversation. They just want to win. Just like this lady. Just like you.

Sure, you can barge into a conversation and try to change the subject to be about the thing that you care about and not the thing people are talking about. That doesn't mean that people aren't grasping your genius, it means you're moving the goalposts to win an argument that only you are having.

I am arguing values because that's what this thread is about. The only person who came into it arguing legals was *you*. There was no discussion. This wasn't about whether a thing was *legal*, it was about whether it was *scummy*.

basically, the money of all the KU subscribers goes into a pool, and then every month, the pool is divided up by the number of "page reads" for each book. And that's really key to understanding here. If 1 person read a 200 page book, that's 200 page reads.

There is something truly beautifully stupid about a would-be AI innovator responding to "the whole problem with how AI people approach the world is that they're treating this as a market to be gamed and not a creative endeavour to bring joy" with "but it's a legal market".

Honestly, it makes it better. Vance can't even pretend that everyone at the stadium is anti-American, they hate him *specifically*.

When I first watched it, I thought the whole point was that Horrible isn't actually any better than Hammer - he stalks Penny, ignores her desires, turns her into a trophy and then gets her killed because he can't give up on his obsessions. In retrospect, I'm not sure that's what Whedon thought.
