I get that people are angry about the deployment. So am I!
But the actual things that they are primarily *doing* involve standing around — essentially being political props for the TV cameras and for visiting tourists, and nothing else.

For obvious reasons, there are serious concerns about the legality and politics of the DC National Guard deployment, and it’s a cynical political ploy, but the only federal court to weigh in so far has ruled that they are deployed lawfully (yesterday’s Supreme Court decision does not impact that).

This is ridiculous. The National Guard in DC is wandering around the Mall looking bored. No local residents are intimidated by them, every single person I’ve talked to about them has said they feel kind of bad for them, and they are not doing anything that could remotely be described as unlawful.
