Working hard to be of service and leave no trace, to help build a more just and verdant world for all who follow.
Communities everywhere stepped up to feed SNAP recipients. A general strike needs the same mechanism, and some of us are preparing for that. Get you community ready.

Thank you for voting no. Now we need to replace Schumer and Durbin. We need you to lead this effort starting tomorrow.

That has zero chance of passing, but it moves the Overton Window, and, my-oh-my, I would love to hear the Rs explain why they won't.

"We agree that the ACA is now a mess. There have been too many compromises made to placate the billionaires. Let's do this the right way now. You don't want to subsidize the insurance industry? We get it. Let's cut them out of the loop and get people the health care they need."
November 9, 2025 at 1:46 AM
We need something more dramatic and higher profile. I am not sure what that is, but maybe introduce a bill to tax billionaires to pay for universal health care.

So I kind of feel like it's "Thank you, Chuck Shumer for executing this gambit. The 0.5% of us who pay attention at this level appreciate it."
November 9, 2025 at 1:46 AM
On top of that, there is a right wing lying-for-profit machine pumping out the opposite view 24/7. This move by Shumer and the Dems doesn't even dent that bubble. And even people outside that bubble seldom pay attention to politics, and, if they do, not at this level of detail.
November 9, 2025 at 1:46 AM
But I don't believe many other people do. Wonks like us follow this stuff and get it. My Dad? Fuggedaboudit.
November 9, 2025 at 1:46 AM
HCR said that by making such an offer, the Dems put the onus of the shutdown squarely on the Rs. And I see that.

Damn right.

That Wilson did well Thursday is not a surprise. Seattle’s late-counted ballots typically shift left, as they come from younger voters who either procrastinate or use drop boxes, many of which are located in the city’s denser and more progressive neighborhoods.

The race is still a long way from being over. With Thursday’s release of more than 36,000 ballots, Seattle likely has between 100,000 and 110,000 left to count, according to King County Elections, all but guaranteeing the result will not be known until sometime next week.

11/7 update: Katie Wilson gained on Bruce Harrell on Thursday in the tight race for Seattle mayor.

After Harrell ended Wednesday 8 percentage points ahead, his lead is now down to 5.7 points — 52.6% to 46.9%.

New turnout numbers in Seattle suggest that only about half the ballots are in, with nearly 55 percent of voters in the city casting ballots. Two thirds of those are drop box votes (rather than mail-in), and the numbers now suggest that only about half the ballots have been counted.

1. Me too. 2. All mail in. A large number drop off or mail their ballots on Election Day. It takes a couple of days to get them all inducted. But I LOVE the all mail in voting! Makes it convenient for EVERYONE!

The “other way” is a general strike. It’s time.

Roosevelt and Ravenna neighbors created a way for people to help SNAP recipients through Rising Sun Produce. Please donate! Please use it!
