If you want Hunger Games vibes, esp in terms of social commentary, you need to read Naomi Novik's Scholomance series.

I find that the Divergent series reads very YA (it feels like it was inspired by The Giver series) whereas The Hunger Games series works for all ages.

Will Trent is a good example, although I think this is easier to pull off in a crime show. Also, maybe The Pitt - the entire season takes place in one day, so each episode is a little problem inside of a larger problem.
