Bluesky is my one politics-free space, so expect to see me post a lot about chanoyu, books, and pictures I’ve taken. Seattle based, gay, nerdy.

The fact that @airnewzealand.bsky.social’s gluten-free meals aren’t celiac safe and that their reputation is so bad among celiacs is shocking. If I was running a business with flights across the Pacific Ocean I wouldn’t be telling people “bring your own food.”

Every six months in Seattle, right around robiraki and Shoburi no Shiki, there is the Kyoto Arts & Antiques sale.

Against all odds, I found a new and nearly complete chatsubo. All it’s missing is one of the shin/gyo/sou cords. (1/2)

I’m continually impressed at how bad the Montlake interchange in #Seattle is. How many years to make it this bad? My car’s GPS is telling me to skip the UW exit and go to I5 and backtrack to get to UW. I didn’t listen, and taking the closer exit added 18 minutes of travel time.

A friend shared this today, and it has so much incredible information. Even not being able to read the kanji I am getting so much.

The downside is that I'm not sure what tea tradition the author follows, so it might be totally off base of what I need.

Things like this are why i shouldn’t go look at tea dōgu stores. Look at it! It’s so cute.

I mean, it’s only really appropriate around Tanabata (July 7), but I can see it joining my collection in the future.

Okeiko tonight was supposed to be araichakin habuta, which is build for hot weather. Not entirely sure if that is what’s happening.

I’m planning for a chaji that isn’t scheduled yet, and getting so many ideas. The menu is half planned using a lot of Pacific Northwest ingredients.

When I was I japan last year I went by Hinodeya in Kyoto. They came high recommended. I visited, I got all the measurements and everything, and then they told me the price for a silk kimono. It was less than I expected, so I got a second kimono in polyester. 1/3

I’m shokyaku (first guest) for a hango chaji (“between meals” tea gathering) tomorrow, so I’ve printed and made flashcards of my lines.

A tea newsletter I receive started their missive this week with:

An alternate name for March is “Yayoi” which originates from “kikusa iya oi shigeru tsuki”, meaning “the month that plants and trees grow more and more luxuriantly.”

That meaning just struck me as beautiful, and I wanted to share it.

Today’s tea break is Lunda Blandning from Tehuset Java in Sweden: black tea, lemon peel, rose petals, blackberry leaves. Not normally a black tea person, but I love this combination.

A friend’s in-laws send it her family. Through a beautiful series of coincides this bag made it to my house.

My car looks good in the snow and sun peeking through the clouds.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of "An Introduction to Japanese Tea Ritual" by Jennifer L. Anderson for reasonably cheap? The lowest price I've seen is $129. I have to assume it's out of print, but most papers or articles I've read cite it. #chanoyu

For anyone sick of me whining about the lack of snow:

SNOW. SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW.

Thank you. Carry on.

After #AT&T tap danced on my last nerve while I was in Japan I'm back with #Verizon for the first time in 18 years. In retrospect I should have checked, but their poor communication and response cost me $500 in roaming in three hours.

I canceled my @netflix.com during the last writer's strike, and renewed in January. The new price means it's gone again.

I'm not opposed to them making a profit. I'm opposed to the cash grab, because their supposed 50 new things a month aren't beneficial to me when they cancel what I do like.

I was hoping that my new kimono would arrive for #Hatsugama tomorrow, but the seamstress was sick so it’s still in Japan. I’ll wear it for #Shoburo!

I had #Hatsugama on my calendar for the wrong weekend, and I haven’t sit in seiza for more than a couple of minutes in over a month. Sunday is going to be rough.

I had a dream last night that the #Urasenke tradition restarted #Midorikai, and I was able to attend. Silly adulthood and having a job and bills...

My dream job in Japan was posted yesterday, and deleted overnight. Reminded me I want to update my portfolio so I can jump on it.
