Overall, while he now makes speeches against the military industrial complex, it feels like he has little issue with the killing part of the us imperialist army (from New Yorker portrait in last September)

had to cancel my membership over the whole Platner thing.
I'm not an american, nor a mainer, but it is your coverage propping up Platner that makes me feel, frankly, gaslit.Now, obviously i neither have a stake for Maine nor the US democratic party, but, well, it is your glowing coverage that pointed me to Platner in the first place and that fallout comes to the forefront pretty hard and thick, well...
Shaming people over being very sensitive over a guy who wore a prominent Nazi tattoo for decades (And yes, even if Sam claims to never have seen it, it IS prominently featured on films like Schindler's List or Inglorious Basterds because, you know, it was a prominent part of the uniforms of nazi officers), fought in a war so unpopular that, if i recall correctly, it radicalized Sam towards his political focused in the first place AND did mercenary work for a war criminal company (one that, as far as i know, operated in the West Bank as well)...that's a very bad look.Calling people "elitist" and "against a true working class party", as Emma (who, may i remind y'all, does not have the best track record in who to put her trust in when it comes to politicians) wrote on Twitter, would almost be funny if it weren't so sad.
Now, i do believe in people bettering and reforming themselves. The USMC military tours in Afghanistan (or Iraq, i don't remember) would be a non issue. After all, former IDF soldiers in "Breaking The Silence" etc. are the strongest allies one often has against imperialist military atrocities. Now, the whole Blackwater thing...even if it was only for six months and over financial hardship...that's really bad. I would not have this guy "shot in Central Park" over this, but it more than begs the question of whether someone with this record should be a representative of the left or celebrated as such. As for "it's hard to get money as a veteran"...well, this line of argument reeks a bit of "Mauerschützenprozess" if you know what i mean.
