Cultural diplomacy could no doubt continue to support the #Poland25eu agenda of “issues” and “strengths”.

Artists have portrayed #Chopin with a nose and jaw resembling Nicolas’s and Justyna’s (his foster parents, we believe). In reality, Chopin looked differently as revealed by Bisson’s daguerréotype and perhaps Thomas Couture’s painting (both 1849, the latter ignored by scholars).

The exhumation of Justyna and Nicolas’s bodies at the Powązki Cemetery in Poland 1948 showed “a DISCREPANCY between the dimensions of Justyna Chopin’s skull and portraits by Mieroszewski 1829”. Only b&w photos of the originals survived WW2. They were all, including Ludwika, portrayed to look alike!

Scholars in Brussels have concluded that Nicolas and Justyna were Chopin’s (and Ludwika’s) foster parents. Their biological parents were Polish nobles.
That explains the confusion about Fryderyk’s birthday, the many divergent portraits of him, and other oddities. #Chopin #ZelazowaWola.
