If you think that's bad - in theory he could order troops to shoot the entirety of Democratic members of Congress and the pardon those troops. His pardon power is full and, for actions in D.C. there is no state prosecution that could be brought that would be beyond the reach of his pardon power.

“Government of Mexico personnel removed six signs based on their perception of the international boundary’s location.”

So, even with a massive error by DOD contractors we can't say that . . . it's the Mexican government's "perception" that signs 12 miles south of the border were improperly placed.

Pending investigation that is . . . checks notes . . . five days old and tied explicitly to DJT's demand to Bondi to start investigating Democrats tied to Epstein.

Not a good look for sure.

I wonder if Boasberg could find Bove (Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit) in contempt . . . which would be rather awkward, but quite interesting.

More than 300 South Korean workers were detained in an immigration raid September 4 at the Hyundai Motor Group factory in Georgia.

In a time when looking vaguely foreign can have you pulled out of a shattered car window in front of your crying child it may be a tad harder to get this ex-U.S. talent

You clearly know more than me on this, but note that if materials are being withheld based on an active investigation they are not "redacted" and they are not being withheld for national security reasons. Yes, the DOJ has to act "narrowly" but who is in a position to really challenge their calls?

Say it with me - as of 4 days ago - "open investigation". That gives plenty of room for holding materials back and, of course, selective disclosure.

Define "acquiescence" - it was 4 days ago, as Trump couldn't stop the House from passing the bill, that he ordered Bondi to open an investigation of Dems in the files. Now the existence of an investigation that is not even a week old can be used to hold back files. www.forbes.com/sites/alison...

Leaving aside whether it will pass in the Senate, my understanding is that they have grounds to not release anything "pending an open investigation"

Of course, just days ago they moved to open an investigation.

So, it could pass the Senate, be signed, and go nowhere.

At Trump’s urging, Bondi says U.S. will investigate Epstein’s ties to political foes
Acceding to President Donald Trump's demands, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Friday that she has ordered a top federal prosecutor to investigate Jeffrey Epstein's ties to Trump political foes.

Nixon famously said, in the midst of the Watergate scandal, "I am not a crook". And Bill Clinton said "I never had sex with that woman, not ever."

I think all we students of American history can say we're glad that they closed those investigations right then and there.

What on earth is wrong with people - it's an outstanding achievement. Your choices are your own and, by the looks of things, they've been excellent ones.
November 18, 2025 at 5:49 AM
I think it's even more cynical than it appears (and Massie flagged up the move).

He knew he was going to lose the House vote, so he flipped. I assume the Senate will now also pass it - and DJT will sign. But wait, Bondi is investigating so the files can't be released pending open investigations.

Traditional white conservatives had views, not a cult of personality. I think liberals disagreed with those views but the current "explain it again" is more justifiable when the other side's positions switch on a dime based on the preference of DJT.

And without rationality democracy is what again?
November 16, 2025 at 4:51 AM
That's the challenge though isn't it - at the extremes (say MAGA) it is a profoundly irrational group, willing to flip on policies on a dime (no more wars - war with fishermen . . . tariffs are great - Trump is a genius for dropping them for coffee . . . states rights . . . nope, etc.).
