Another of the photos where I play with string lights last night.
April 5, 2025 at 3:55 PM
I was playing around with the string lights, might reshoot with the wizard robe.

Analog film and home darkroom print version of “Facing a Robot,” 2022.

This one feels more anachronistic.

Lighthouse is in the background.

Homage to Pet Shop Boys’ Release album cover, 2023

I photographed a backyard hibiscus in a manner similar to the poppy photographed by Dan Forbes for Pet Shop Boys’ Release album cover. This is an untreated photo, though cropped to 1:1.

Self portrait homage to Björk’s Debut Album cover, 2023

I’ve taken the basic elements of Björk’s album cover photo by Jean-Baptiste Mondino - the makeup, the sweater, hands together, and shot this photo. This is the untreated version. I’ve run it through Snapseed to achieve a grainy sepia effect.

Homage to Depeche Mode’s Exciter album cover, 2023

My photo of an agave plant found in my neighborhood is an homage to the one photographed by Anton Corbijn, whom I became aware of in my teens before Depeche Mode’s commercial breakthrough in the late 1980s.

Hillside spot, 2022

This is of the hillsides near the lighthouse on the grounds of the Cabrillo National Monument. It’s a landscape macro with the anomaly of a bare patch of sandstone and the peeking out of another geological layer.

Woman sitting on the bench, 2022

This one is a candid shot of someone sitting on a bench at Windandsea Beach. It was an exercise in seeing a story in something I encountered now along with framing it in the composition.

Sharkhead Robot from 1950’s Sci Fi Film, 2022

Tourist binoculars shot from the side with clouds and the Pacific Ocean in the background. Here, I used the filtered sunlight of a partially cloudy day to help create a vintage effect in this color photo.

The Robot Speaks, 2022

Tourist binoculars shot at Cabrillo National Monument with San Diego Bay in the background, rendered in BW.

House on Mission Blvd, 2021

Film and darkroom print treated with tea.

This photo of a house near Belmont Park was botched in development, one of several at the time. I toned it with tea, giving it an antique and otherworldly quality.

Cereus bloom, 2021.

I lit the night-blooming cereus flower from the side and shot it “in profile,” giving it an otherworldly glow.

I made use of a DIY light source with an IKEA crookneck lamp and a piece of printer paper wrapped around the bulb.

In the Succulent Fairy Forest, 2021.

A very Pandemic kind of photo of looking more closely at things in the back yard.

Unaltered original of the image in the quote, affects achieved by low shutter speed and movements of head to light paint with the string lights on it. Shot in 2022.

Self-portrait, homage to Lucas Samaras, 2022

Effect achieved in Photoshop by destructively smudging image in a way that Lucas Samaras applied destructive techniques to his Polaroids.
