Not sure why you think that. Jury is not out completely (the fighter jet thing will be very telling) but it does seem like we are pulling away from the US defence-wise and integrating ourselves more with EU. Just to be clear I am not a rah rah Carney person.

For the same reasons we’d probably do better against China and Russia with the Gripens.

The authors, both from conservative think tanks, fail to imagine the USA is probably our next adversary. Kill switch or not, jobs or not, I rather have five times as many Gripens taking off from the sides of single lane highways across Canada than 88 F-35s gathered on two or three bases.

So yes on green energy and making the world a better place but in case you didn’t notice we now have a 9000km border with a fascist county that has already threatened us multiple times with annexation (read economic warfare and invasion). Arming up is a good apolitical idea at this point.

As looney as that was he was right about only the poor having to pay for making mistakes or being wrong. People with means outsource the responsibility. He implies that he is the exception, and I doubt it, but in general that bit was true.

Additionally, while the left is not pristine, the right in the US is now completely corrupt. They care not for the rule of law or basic decency. You might find lefty individuals who are equally obnoxious but none of them are in charge or are going to be anytime soon. Like I said no equivalence.

There is zero equivalence between the American far right and what is called the “far left” in America. You should probably read more and examine what policies are normal in other advanced d countries.

Serving in the military isn’t for everyone but serving the country is. There are reasons to refuse conscription - and many have in Canada, not just Francophones - but there are lots of other jobs to help for those folks.
